On April 21st, Michael Zussman and Glen R. McMurry will present their CLE program on The Ethical Perils of Social Media at the Ohio State Bar Association. The program is the result of collaboration between Zussman and McMurry over the years, and is regularly presented around the country. If you’re in the Columbus area and would like more information about the program, brochure and registration information can be found here. Stay tuned to our News & Events section for updates on when this CLE will be offered in NYC.
Program Description:
Is social media advertising? Are LinkedIn endorsements really “endorsements?” Can my posts on Facebook subject me to ethical scrutiny by my local grievance committee? Am I “tweeting” away my license to practice law? Make no mistake: ethical violations associated with social media use are on the rise. For all the utility social media brings our profession, it is important that we take steps to educate ourselves that the novelty of this technology comes at a price.
This program will provide a general overview and discuss the ethical considerations for the 21st century federal practitioner and judge associated with the use of social media. Using a combination of interactive digital polling with the audience, recent case authority, hypotheticals, the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and humor, participants will be guided through the ethical evaluation process associated with social media use, including evaluating which rules apply and when. This program will conclude with a series of best practices as well as a brief question and answer period where participants will be permitted to submit questions.
